Challenge

Bailey Streetscene was initially approached to tender for the first school in the Barnsley Building Schools for the Future (BSF) programme for Laing O'Rourke

Following competitive tender, the company was awarded the contract and successfully completed the project.

That led to the idea of improving standardisation, wherever possible, across the other schools in the programme. Following consultation with the architect and the client, Bailey was asked to supply fittings for the other sites as well, eight in total.

Solution

Bailey Streetscene satisfied all design and costing criteria over the 12-month construction period, which in turn was approved by the local authority and the individual schools.

All relevant documentation was produced to allow RDD (reviewable design data). This included site base and foundation layout details, product imaging, dimensions and material specifications.

As the work progressed, Bailey Streetscene became more increasingly involved in supporting the client. From working on a supply-only basis on the first scheme, the company became a full subcontract provider for the other projects, supplying and installing cycle shelters and canopies, litter bins, bollards, seating and trim trail play equipment.

Services included:

  • Initial costing against budget
  • Initial design consultation with architect and contractor
  • Value engineering proposals
  • Bespoke design and product modification
  • Drawing submission
  • Foundation and general arrangement base layout details (CAD incorporated in to site plans)
  • Document and spec detail produced for RDD and CP submission
  • Final budget analysis
  • Project management
  • Manufacture
  • Supply
  • Site liaison
  • Installation
  • O&M / RAMS documents produced

Outcome

Laing O'Rourke's Construction Manager for the Barnsley scheme said, “Bailey Streetscene and their team provided us with an excellent product and one that the client was extremely satisfied with. Their help throughout the construction process and project delivery was unrivalled and really added value in all areas, from design and technical expertise to a flexible and accommodating delivery schedule that suited our specific needs.

"Site supervision and liaison was also second to none and made the process run as smooth as possibly could, with a strong focus on safety and the environment”.

The Procurement Department added, “Bailey Streetscene proved very quickly that they were a willing and valued addition to the Barnsley BSF programme. From a procurement perspective, they were able to offer relevant advice and guidance which helped the schemes achieve budget, timescales and client satisfaction.”
