Construction for Canary Wharf started in the late 1980s on the Isle of Dogs in London.
Nearly all the trees were supplied by Lorenz von Ehren. The first trees were planted at Colmore Circus and Canada Square in 1989-1990. The last large project was Jubilee Park, completed in 2004.
Jubilee Park is effectively a roof garden, built above an underground railway station. The central feature is a raised serpentine water channel with rough stone walls. Other walls are planted with tall grass species. Over 200 Metasequoia trees were planted in irrigated containers.
Planting consisted of over 1000 semi-mature trees, ranging in girth from 35-40cm up to 100-120 cm.
