The Steelgrid HR System is an innovative complete system for rockfall mitigation and slope consolidation works. It is used as a drapery system or as a high stiffness (low extension) bolted facing when anticipated loads exceed the capability of traditional DT Mesh.

Steelgrid is a high-strength, high-stiffness composite combining the versatility and practical benefits of double-twist mesh with the exceptional stiffness and mechanical durability of high-tensile steel cables in a single homogenous structure.

The Steelgrid HR System combines the patented high-strength steel wire mesh composite which is used in conjunction with anchor plates, specific U-bolts and HR Links, our rapid-to-use mesh connectors.

Two options are available:

  • Steelgrid® MO (mono-oriented) geocomposite - this includes steel cables integrated longitudinally into the double twist mesh as the edging wire and also at the centre of the roll.

  • Steelgrid® BO (bi-oriented) geocomposite: this includes steel cables

Steelgrid HR is available with two coating types depending on exposure and/or design life requirements;

  • A Class A heavy-duty galvanised coating

  • A Class A heavy-duty galvanising plus an additional polymer coating for more aggressive operating environments

Maccaferri Steelgrid offers a mechanically superior method of transferring the loads imposed on a drapery installation, to the crest line anchor system. Certain types of un-reinforced drapery can exhibit heterogeneous deformation during loading from the accumulation of rock/soil material between the mesh and the slope and due to other factors such as self-weight and ice accumulation. This deformation can overstress drapery or mesh-facing systems, compromising the performance of the system.

Steelgrid® and MacArmour provide considerable time-saving advantages during installation because of the integration of the steel cables within the mesh.
