The Up-Flo™ Filter is a high rate, modular stormwater filter system that combines a patented upward flow path with a unique drain down design.
It is designed specifically for removing a wide range of pollutants, including floatable debris, fine sediments, nutrients, metals, oils and grease, organics and bacteria, from stormwater.
The Up-Flo™ Filter is especially useful in high-density urban environments, where high pollutant loadings need to be managed in limited space or where it is difficult to control the quality of surface water runoff using conventional or natural SuDS techniques alone.
The Up-Flo™ filter provides an effective solution in both new-build or retrofit situations for residential, commercial or industrial developments, highways or car parks.
The Up-Flo™ Filter has the ability to distribute flows evenly across the media within the filter modules to ensure maximum treatment capacity. The drain down system ensures the filter media is not submerged between storm events, greatly reducing the risk of filter media degradation, harmful bacterial growth and pollutants leaching into water resources.
The internal components of the Up-Flo™ Filter have been developed using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling, as well as pilot and full-scale testing, to maximise flow distribution while minimising short-circuiting through the filter media.
Configurations are available from 1 l/s to well in excess of 220 l/s.
Data collected through extensive pilot and field testing programmes by the University of Alabama has confirmed the efficacy of the Up-Flo™ Filter technology.
The Up-Flo™ Filter is part of the Hydro StormTrain® Series of surface water treatment devices, a comprehensive toolbox for silt, sediment and pollutant removal as part of SuDS.
The Hydro StormTrain® Series comprises four products, First Defense®, Downstream Defender®, The Up-Flo™ Filter and Hydro BioCell™ that can be used independently or in combination to deliver a Treatment Train that meets the water quality stipulations of a site. They can also be used to protect, enhance or enable natural SuDS features such as ponds or attenuation tanks.

The Up-Flo™ Filter can also be used in conjunction with our Hydro-Brake Optimum® Flow Control and Stormbloc® storage/infiltration system, to provide a complete SuDS solution which includes flow control, storage / infiltration and treatment.
