Challenge

When York Maze moved to a new site in April 2007 it immediately set out to capitalise on the new space.

Set in beautiful countryside, with spacious barns, York Maze is very popular for weddings and corporate events. As well as a maze, it incorporates quad biking, water splash games, events arena and various inflatables.

York Maze was keen to ensure that the play area would appeal to children of all ages, as well as fitting in to the natural surrounding environment.

Solution

With this in mind, Timberplay helped to design and build two distinct play zones.

The Sand and Water Zone appeals to a younger age group and incorporates imaginative play equipment such as timber huts, slides, small climbing frames, platforms, a mill wheel and a wooden tractor.

All the Sand and Water zone equipment was chosen for its versatility in getting young children to test balance, role play, the senses, climbing, movement and adventure.

The Climbing zone is a huge climbing area designed for older children and even adults. It includes a number of large climbing frames with tall towers and platforms that are linked with bridges.

The Climbing zone encourages children get to challenge themselves with how to overcome tall obstacles, experience height, test their physical strength with climbing, and improve their balance and co-ordination, working together and jumping from moving objects.
