Challenge

Situated in York, Castle Howard is a renowned stately home with impressive grounds and gardens, which attracts around 200,000 visitors every year.

After 30 years, the playground was looking tired, and so they called in Timberplay to breathe fresh life into the space.

With several other attractions in the area, Castle Howard wanted a playground that was different to anything else and something that would ensure visitors would return.

Working within the original footprint, Timberplay was able to create an exciting and innovative playground that fitted within the surroundings as it used natural materials, but was also visually stunning.

Solution

Installed in June 2008, the playground has 17 key pieces and is suitable for children of all ages.

Adventurous new pieces include a 9m pyramid slide, large cross-scale balancers, the ever-popular nest swing and huge balancing beams.

The architecture of the playground capitalises on the lush landscape to provide further opportunities for imaginative play.

Outcome

Castle Howard has already seen an increase in the number of annual passes sold on the back of the new playground and is confident that the playground will continue to attract more new visitors into the future

The £250,000 investment has resulted in a playground which appeals to children of all ages and adults too, who are able to play on the equipment with their children.
