The Challenges

Welsh Water is looking to safeguard the environment and provide a more sustainable future for communities. The Lingfield Gardens residential development needed to create a design for an attenuation tank which could adhere to Welsh Water’s requirements. Additionally, the tank needed to withstand lateral loadings, accommodate the required amount of storage volume, and fit into a small area.

Obsidian Homes wanted the full package of supply and installation. Due to the tank having to meet specific requirements, the developers wanted to mitigate the risk of installation and have another party complete the task.

Due to the lack of space on site the Wavin AquaCell units could not be delivered all at once or stored on site for installation to happen another day.

The Solution

Over a 3-month period Wavin Technical Design worked with Obsidian Homes engineer, CB3 Consult, to develop a suitable design. To meet Welsh Water’s requirement, structural and hydraulic calculations were made alongside comprehensive design drawings. To keep the client’s up to date, Team’s meetings and on-site meetings were held prior to the installation.

Wavin StormForce provided the single source solution. Taking away the risk and hassle from the client and supplying a high-quality end-to-end solution. From consultation to handover and warranty, Wavin StormForce provide fast and efficient expertise in rainwater soak away solutions. 

Obsidian Homes also wanted Wavin to provide other below ground products, including Twinwall, a cost-effective way of controlling infiltration, reducing the volume of water required to be drained at the endpoint. The materials used are developed by Wavin’s in-house technology to maximise the use of recycled material.

The delivery of the AquaCell units was done as each layer of the tank was built up. The system was installed in two visits, the first to install four layers and the second visit installed the upper 3 layers. 

Wavin collaborated with Obsidian and CB3 Consult effectively from the onset and built good relationships with both, making the supply and installation of the tank was a success.
