Context

S Resorts Group approached playground specialist and Percussion Play's partner, Elite Areas, to design a playground with an outdoor musical garden for the 5* Lyttos Beach Hotel and Lyttos Mare Exclusive Beach Resort.

About the resort

Located on the beautiful Greek island of Crete, the Lyttos Beach Hotel and Lyttos Mare Exclusive Beach Resort are two 5-star exclusive family resorts and part of the S Resorts Group hotel chain. Just 5km from the town of Hersonissos, hidden amongst vast, colourful gardens that lead to a Blue Flag awarded sandy beach, the complex combines a leisure and sports centre destination, where guests can take advantage of the many sporting and family-friendly facilities on offer and escape the stress of everyday life.

Requirement

A playground was required to not only complement these facilities but to become a benchmark for playgrounds in the hotel industry.

Project detail

The newly-created 900m² playground features small and large play structures to be utilised by different age groups, ensuring high-simultaneous capacity. The play area includes a sheltered family seating area with a bar and snacks, mini golf course and music garden.

Bringing both music and colour to the playground, the music garden features a Sunflower and Daisy Petal Drum, a minor bunch of Harmony Bells, and Rainbow Cavatina Xylophone. A trio of Djembe Drums will allow players to experience the high energy and power of group drumming, which transcends age, language and ability. Finally, a Papilio Metallophone tuned to a pentatonic scale means there will be no wrong notes as family and friends play together.

The design approach of Lyttopia allows the children to play on their own, along with their parents or the hotel animators.
