Context
Benchmark was approached by Brookhouse UK to supply external stools for Haringey Sixth Form College. After brief discussions it became apparent that the company could offer much more than just stools.
The College had two large external courtyards that were barely used. The aim of the rejuvenation was to create a number of communal spaces that would encourage the pupils to meet, eat and study on site instead of leaving the campus.
Project detail
Working with Brookhouse, Benchmark designed a number of further items, namely straight and curved benches, planters, litter bins and signage. Within a matter of hours Benchmark was able to supply 3D rendered images showing what could be achieved.
Benchmark adapted items from its Campus street furniture range for this project. The main change was designing out the box section to change it for an aluminium edging; this kept costs down and also offered a more minimalist look. This was continued through to the curved benches, planters and litter bins.
Centerline stools were also selected, adapted to be free-standing, yet heavy enough to be stable without fixings. Matching tables where also manufactured, providing students with the flexibility to change the space to configure it in a way that worked for them.
Outcome
Over all the College is extremely happy with the outcome and is looking forward to utilising the new spaces to their full potential.
