Overview

Langley Design worked with AG Surveying and the KN Group to provide a bespoke pergola as part of a £3m re-development plan for a new entrance to the public at Hackney Central Station in London, to help ease congestion on the busy North London line.

The second access is a response to the growing popularity of London Overground services in Hackney, which saw passenger numbers rise by around 10% in the two years prior to the Covid 19 pandemic. The new entrance provides more direct access to the town centre and allows a simpler interchange with Hackney Downs Station and the local bus services.

Work undertaken

Using its in-house design team, Langley created a striking structure to the main entrance that works cohesively with the rest of the scheme.

The main frame utilises galvanised and powder-coated steels to create a wide-spanning entrance area, allowing an easy access route for the busy London crowds.

The use of FSC hardwood Iroko rafters to the front section of the structure softens the design and harmonises with the sustainable timber and green walls used elsewhere on the project.
