IOTA was commissioned to supply bespoke corten steel planters, with timber seating and standing-height tables, for a transformational gateway project on the forecourt of Watford Junction railway station.
Work undertaken
All elements were fabricated from 3.0mm corten steel, pre-weathered before shipment, plus iroko FSC hardwood timber. All planters have adjustable feet, hidden behind a skirt plinth, and the planters with standing-height tables were designed to be lowered over existing bollards.
Outcome
The design concept was by art and architecture studio Dallas–Pierce–Quintero, who also commissioned the works on behalf of Watford Borough Council. The complete scheme by Dallas–Pierce–Quintero included art installations, wayfinding and illuminated seating, to create a welcoming and impressive first impression of Watford, that celebrates the town’s distinctiveness and printing heritage.
