Solution
Project consultants Arch Henderson decided that Geoweb® geocells presented the perfect solution to minimise the overall and differential settlements of a highly loaded area, due to its unique load transfer mechanism. In total, 24,230 square metres of Geoweb was laid by contractor McLaughlin & Harvey.
The load-bearing capacity of Geoweb®-based access roads is mobilised due to the stress reduction within the Geoweb® layers caused by the friction between the textured and perforated cell walls and the infill material.
As a result of its unique load transfer mechanism, the Geoweb® Load Support System is a proven cost-effective solution for challenging soft sub-grades and especially settlement and serviceability problems. Geoweb® has been successfully installed on many roadways, works sites and intermodal yards for the past 30 years with lasting success.
