Oak interpretation and orientation signs - Chorleywood Common
Fitzpatrick Woolmer was awarded the contract to develop a scheme of oak interpretation and orientation display signage for the heathland and woodland habitats of Chorleywood Common. The team's artists created beautiful wildlife illustrations to capture the abundance of natural history throughout the Common, and a watercolour map to aid navigation
Through a competitive tender, Fitzpatrick Woolmer was awarded the contract to develop a scheme of interpretation and orientation display signage that sat well in the heathland and woodland habitats of Chorleywood Common in Hertfordshire.
Solution
The company's design team presented options to Chorleywood Parish Council for static sign displays, taking inspiration from the wooded backdrop, and recommended waney-edge oak signs.
The team's artists created beautiful wildlife illustrations that captured the abundance of natural history found throughout the Common, supported by a detailed watercolour map to aid navigation.
Signs were manufactured from oak and feature a natural bark edge. Prohibitions icons were discretely routed to one face, offering advice to the public about sensible use of the Common, without creating a negative impression.
Interpretive lecterns were an adaptation of the Woodsman™ lectern range and featured full-colour n-viro™ prints. n-viro™ has a high print quality and excellent clarity of colour, well-suited to the detailed illustrations and map artwork.
