Challenge

Ealing Borough Council have created an exceptional play area in Walpole Park by using water as a key theme throughout the space. A Forest Fountain acts as a big draw, delighting younger and older children alike. The Forest Fountain combines a selection of posts, jets and pumps, to create a thrilling waterplay experience. A sailing boat continues the water theme, but with no fear of the children getting wet. Younger children also benefit from a playhouse and toddler swing.

Solution

Several pieces of equipment have been selected as they appeal to a wide age range, with a variety of swinging experiences provided by the twin swing, cradle nest and hexagonal swing. Double see saw, Jackstraw See Saw and small carousel can be enjoyed by several children at any one time, presenting anything from a gentle ride to a more daring adventure.

Older children will find challenge in a large Climbing Forest, with hefty timbers and play elements that require balance, skill and determination for successful manoeuvring from start to finish.

Outcome

Councillor Bassam Mahfouz, cabinet member for transport, environment and leisure at Ealing Council, said: “This is a fun, natural play area that sparks the imagination, makes you wanting to come back for more and has so much to offer. The naturalistic looking play area uses lots of natural materials and replaces the small, old fashioned playground that was much loved but well past its sell by date. The new water jets and hexagonal group swing is an example of the great range of new exciting play features available, which are already favourites amongst young and old.”
