Chapleton of Elsick is part of a £2 billion development in Aberdeen, due for completion in 2023. The 2000 acre site encompasses 8000 new homes, leisure and business facilities, two schools and a public park. Kinley's AluExcel aluminium edging was specified for the project's footpaths.
The project's architects decide to use flexible metal edging instead of traditional concrete pin kerbs to create the development's public footpaths. For this, they chose Kinley's AluExcel edging. AluExcel allowed the designers to create more diverse geometries as the material could be supplied preformed to specific radii, or manipulated on-site as required. AluExcel edging is also 100& recyclable, which meant it satisfied the designers' vision for a sustainable build.
Philip Lucey, Project Manager at Turner & Townsend, said: "Kinley has significantly contributed to realising the vision for Chapleton, with its products in use at multiple locations across the site. The flexibility in the aluminium allowed the design team to design more aesthetically pleasing layouts which were easily adhered to on the ground by the contractor.
