Context

The Hawkhead Centre in Paisley, Scotland is a custom-built activity centre for the veterans of the armed forces who are visually impaired and is run by the charity, Scottish War Blinded.

The site is also home to the Royal Blind charity’s Jenny's Well Care Home, an Unum Partnership project, which specialises in nursing care for older people with sight loss.

Product supplied

Addagrip approved contractor Resarf Flooring Ltd, part of the Fraser Bruce Group, was invited to install over 1700m2 of BBA approved Terrabound resin bound porous surfacing for the pathways at the Hawkhead Centre. The Terrabound surfacing is smooth, seamless, has good slip resistance, and is porous thereby ensuring no water remains on the surface, making the pathways safe and comfortable underfoot.

The Terrabound resin bound system was also specified for the courtyard area at Jenny's Well Care Home to create seamless surfaced areas in keeping with the design.

To complement the contemporary design and building materials used, two contrasting Terrabound natural aggregate blends were selected - Chocolate Buff and Rhine Gold - to offer a practical paving solution.

Outcome

The BBA certified Terrabound resin bound system has created hard-wearing, low-maintenance pedestrian areas, ensuring that the pathways will be safe, fully accessible and easily navigable for the centre’s users.
