Context
Being one of the biggest transport interchanges in the area, The Hard is a huge asset to Portsmouth. Buses, trains, and boats all run services from it and it is often the first thing visitors see when arriving in the city by public transport. Despite this, the area was run down and overcrowded, with multiple old bus stops packed into one small area and little seating for visitors.
Following consultation with residents and businesses, Portsmouth City Council decided to transform the area into a modern and stylish interchange that is both safer and more attractive to its visitors.
A hard-wearing yet attractive surface was needed to complete the project after the main building had been built and the old bus stops removed.
The Council specified a SuDS-compliant surface, in order to reduce surface water run-off and reduce the risk of flooding.
Solution
Meon’s Resin Bound surfacing offered the perfect solution, due to its durability and the fact that it is permeable. It was selected in two different blends - Frosted Dawn and Mocha Beach - to match the modern and fresh feel of the regenerated area.
The success of Meon’s previous project with Portsmouth City Council, Northern Road bridge, gave the Council confidence to go through with the Hard Interchange.
Outcome
The completed project has received a vast amount of positive feedback from both locals and visitors.
DekorGrip Resin Bound in Frosted Dawn and Mocha Beach complements the new building perfectly, and gives a fresh and new feeling to the whole area.
