Context

Transport for London (TfL) has created a network of cycle superhighways in the city with routes running from outer London into and across central London. They provide safer, faster and more direct journeys into the city and are a great way to get to move around London.

The East-West Cycle Superhighway will run through central London from Tower Hill to Lancaster Gate in various sections.

Work undertaken

Addagrip's BBA approved Terrabound resin bound surfacing was selected to provide over 2,200m2 of smooth, seamless, porous paving that would be hard-wearing and provide good slip resistance for the cyclists.

Working for Transport for London, F M Conway Ltd was responsible for the installation of a new stretch of the cycle path that runs alongside Green Park to provide a safe route for cyclists from Buckingham Palace to Wellington Arch.

F M Conway Ltd carried out the installation over a 9-day period working in one of the busiest tourist locations in central London and during a period of very hot weather. They started at the Wellington Arch / Commonwealth Memorial end of Constitution Hill and finished the last 185m stretch outside Buckingham palace on Friday 8th July.

Outcome

The natural aggregate finish in a 6mm Rhine Gold complements the location alongside Green Park and provides a low maintenance surface in this busy area of central London.

The work was completed alongside the existing path being used by cyclists that runs along Green Park. A metal edging detail was used, separating the resin bound surface from the hoggin surface around the existing mature trees that line the roadside.
