- Mago Plus wall-mounted seating; DAE Montseny chairs
Public Spaces was invited by the London Borough of Lambeth to assist in the selection and manufacture of the seating for this rejuvenation project in Clapham Old Town.
First was the selection of a traditional seat design, but with a contemporary interpretation.
The obvious selection from Public Spaces' wide range was the Montseny chair from DAE of Barcelona. This bench is available not only as a chair, but also as a bench of 1500mm and 3000mm length.
For Clapham, it was decided to use the Montseny chair design and to scatter the pieces in clusters around the site, giving people the opportunity to gather to chat and observe the world around them. The chair is particularly popular with the elderly as the twin arms allow ease of access and egress.
Secondly, the site had a number of very large planting areas bordered by low concrete walls.
Public Spaces designed and manufactured a version of the company's Mago 'Plus' wall-mounted seating to fit these walled surfaces. Mago 'Plus' seating is manufactured with a stainless steel frame and hardwood planking, which suited this location perfectly and will guarantee a long and useful life in this area.
In addition to the standard Mago 'Plus' product, Public Spaces added a number of sections with backrests and a low-level armrests to discourage the use of the benches for skatebarding and avoid their use for sleeping.
