Typical applications and standards

  • Decking and decked areas ranging from small installations, to large boardwalks
  • FSC and PEFC certification
  • Treetop walkways and towers
  • Play houses and structures

Accreditation

  • Stages and performance areas are built to BS EN 1176 and BS EN 1177

Design and construction

Not only is decking hard-wearing and child friendly, children often find decking exciting because it acts as a performance/theatre space as it is slightly raised above ground level.

Decking can be designed to cover large or small areas and can be handmade to fit specific areas of different sizes. Decking can provide interesting level changes which in turn can create new views and exciting experiences for children.

Decking can act as an outdoor teaching space as well as an area within which the school can carry out activities and events.

Decking can be multipurpose. It can be a play structure or a seat (warm and dry), a performance space or a safety zone. Decking does not need to be categorised and identified as having simply one function but can adapt to the different needs of the school.

It is also possible to apply a non-slip treatment to decking so that it is also safe in wet/icy weather.
