The Grange University Hospital was opened ahead of schedule in November 2020 to help respond to the winter season pressures and a potential Covid-19 second wave. The Hospital provides care for those who are seriously ill, have complex problems or conditions that can’t be safely managed at another local general hospital.
It uses the landscaped areas, with views across the surrounding countryside, to help promote healing and wellness for staff and patients. The largest area of the hard landscaping can be found outside the front entrance which alongside the pedestrian area includes bicycle storage, a bus stop and a one-way vehicle looped driveway.
A range of Steintec mortars was selected for the installation of 3,000m2 of paving slabs and setts. The mortars were first delivered to the site in December 2019, with the project running into the initial COVID-19 outbreak and first UK lockdown. During the lockdown, Steintec's production facility was run on a skeleton service, and it was still able to supply paving products to this essential project. With the extra pressures of reduced staffing and additional safety procedures, products and tools, including the hire of forced action mixers and Pergo 880, were all still sent as required and arrived at the site on time.
