Requirement

Holland Park is the largest park in Kensington and Chelsea with large areas of woodland abundant with wildlife. For this project, two bespoke play structures were designed for the site by Erect Architecture, and manufactures and installed by Duncan & Grove.

The first bespoke structure was the 'Hillcoaster', which snakes around existing trees. The second structure is 'The Fishermen’s Tower', which is located at the start of the play valley pond and provides a vantage point over the site.

Solution

Using the conceptual designs and initial construction drawings provided by Erect Architecure - together with a series of connection details engineered by Entuitive Engineers - Duncan & Grove created a 3D model and detailed construction drawings.

The Fishing Tower was then manufactured in the company's workshop from oak and robinia, before being lifted into place using a HIAB and a crane

The Hillcoaster was built on site from robinia. The structure was then inspected by an independent play inspector to ensure it was EN 1176 compliant.
