Bison Bridges was contracted by Leicestershire County Council to construct the Glenfield link footpath connecting commercial units to nearby residential areas, as part of the Optimus Point Development.
The route of the new footpath runs within Fishley Belt – an area of old woodland that is home to an abundance of wildlife including a Great Crested Newt colony. This meant that there must be minimal ground disturbance whilst still creating a user-friendly level footpath providing pedestrians with a route over various ditches and boggy sections.
Three Bison pedestrian bridges were supplied and installed, along with 20m of recycled plastic boardwalk, all of which required very little excavation.
Additional works included vegetation clearance, footpath creation, fencing and the installation of motorcycle inhibitor barriers.
The specifying of Bison galvanised steel beam bridges and recycled plastic boardwalk as opposed to standard timber ensures that these structures will stand the test of time in a damp environment.
