Context
Stanwick Lakes countryside attraction and nature reserve, set in 750 acres in the heart of the Nene Valley, Northamptonshire, attracts over 300,000 visitors each year.
Work undertaken
Timotay Playscapes, a Northamptonshire-based outdoor play space provider, has worked in partnership with Stanwick Lakes on a number of projects to refurbish and further develop exciting and engaging imaginative play zones within the site, including:
- Tree house: brings a new zone to the area.
- Climbing frame: play equipment is enjoyed by families, teenagers and even fitness fanatics. The innovative play frame also incorporates a series of rope challenges, monkey bars and tunnels.
- Swamp bridge: replaces an existing structure and allows children to adventure across the water via the rope bridge and onto their next part of their journey around Stanwick Lakes.
- Refurbishment of existing water play area: Timotay updated and refurbished the well-used and loved waterplay area.
The next phase
Timotay Playscapes has been awarded the contract, to bring Stanwick Lakes vision to life.
The next part of this exciting development is the investment into the main play structure. It will continue to be a unique and extensive playground, situated in the central zone providing visitors with a fun filled adventure. Despite its size, it blends beautifully into the picturesque surroundings due to its wooden composition.
“We are absolutely delighted and proud to be working in partnership with Stanwick Lakes for this next phase. Stanwick Lakes provides a truly unique experience to visitors and our design and construction will truly compliment this” said Stuart Humphrey, Director, Timotay Playscapes.
Through a series of consultations with Timotay’s team of experts, a brief was understood, and a design created to reflect the project objectives. The projects are all managed in-house, and the on-site build constructed by skilled craftsmen.
The key areas of the next phase include the renewal of the main tower frame. The tower respects the natural environment in which is sits, with the frame constructed of natural materials. Stanwick Lakes attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year, so the construction will be robust and extremely hard-wearing. The replacement structure will cater for a wide range of ages and abilities.
The next phase and construction will take place over the winter months to minimise the impact on visitor experience and maximise experience for next year.
