In tribute to the bench that Robert Moses and Kenneth Lynch designed for the 1939 World's Fair in New York and which ended up being the most used in the city, our editors asked James Corner Field Operations (JCFO) - the renowned New York landscape architect studio behind the High Line walk - to interpret and update this icon of their city, staying true to its original character but enhancing its functionality and ergonomics.

The characteristic curve of the arms gives the PERISPHERE models a presence that is at once robust and stylised. As an armchair designed for individual use it can also be combined with benches and banquettes to create rows of various compositions. Named after the most ambitious building of the 1939 World's Fair, PERISPHERE is a modular system that is suitable for both the necessary intimacy of a private garden and the continuous use of avenues and parks, allowing long rows with or without backrest.

Materials:

AG3 cast aluminium structure with anodised finish. Seat and backrest made of 31 mm thick solid wood slats, 44 mm of section and variable lengths, in FSC®-certified tropical wood protected with one-coat oil.

Slats:

Tropical wood (FSC®). One-coat oil finish.

Structure:

Fonte d’aluminium AG3. Anodisée

Installation:

The bench is delivered dismantled. Attached to the ground by two anti-rust treated screws
and expansion anchors per leg. The bench is delivered with assembly instructions. Seat and backrest are delivered pre-assembled.

Maintenance:

No functional maintenance is required, except to preserve the original colour of the wood.
