The Inner Alster Lake is one of two artificial lakes within the city limits of Hamburg, Germany, which are formed by the river Alster.
An historic promenade – the Jungfernstieg - extends along the southern shore of the lake and is popular with residents and visitors who can enjoy the panoramic view.
Lorenz von Ehren supplied several Silver Lime trees (Tilia tomentosa) for waterfront areas along the lakeside. The tree planting creates a restful space for people having a break from the busy-ness of nearby city life, as well as being a filter for urban pollutants and fine particulates.
