Ramsgate Town Council
Ramsgate is a coastal town in the region of Thanet in east Kent. Ramsgate's main attraction is its coastline, including Ramsgate Main Sands which was awarded a Blue Flag in 2015, and its main industries are tourism and fishing. The town has one of the biggest marinas on the English south coast, and the Port of Ramsgate provided cross-channel ferries for many years.
Like many towns, Ramsgate had disjointed signage that was accumulated over many years, was outdated, in poor condition and did not reflect the vision and aspirations of the town council. Developing a branded wayfinding scheme required a clear objective and a thorough understanding of the environment.
Fitzpatrick Woolmer began by completing a thorough audit of existing signage and gaining a complete understanding of the town centre experience, where visitors arrived, where they needed to get to and how best to get them there. The company's creative team worked through progressive design concepts, embracing the essence of this coastal town and its maritime heritage. The solutions needed to reflect the unique character and history that is Ramsgate and communicate the ambitious, forward-thinking attitude of the council.
A contemporary suite of signs has been installed throughout the town, including Enigma™ monoliths and wayfinding fingerposts, finished in traditional maritime colours and displaying iconic images of Ramsgate.
All signage for the project was manufactured in Fitzpatrick Woolmer's workshops in robust stainless steel and aluminium to withstand the harsh coastal environment. Printed panels were finished in a DuoGuard™ anti-graffiti coating, offering protection against anti-social behaviour and giving 10 years' fade-proofing.
