Bespoke GRP liner
Walpole Park is a municipal urban public open space run by London Borough of Ealing Council.
The historic fish pond of approx 1800 square meters needed refurbishing and Lining Systems Ltd was contracted to install a GRP liner.
Full method statements, risk assessments and COSHH data sheets were issued before the commencement of any works.
All the walls were prepped. This included cleaning and drying followed by a primer. All the matting was cut into workable lengths.
Once all the areas were clean, dry and a 6060 resin had been used as a primer, the chopped strand matting was applied. This was applied in two layers using rollers to ensure there were no air bubbles.
After the layers had cured, the surface was sanded to allow for the final resin wash with top coat additive to bond to the matting. This process was carried out by hand as well as using an orbital sander.
A topcoat with wax additive was applied in a black finish.
Due to the size of the fish pond it was vital an expansion joint was added, so the expansion joint was lined before a flexible filler was added. This meant that if any movement occurred in the pond it would remain 100% water-tight.
The process was repeated for the bottom of the pond.
The works took 30 days to complete and resulted in a fully functioning fish pond.
