Context

Set in the heart of Sovereign Harbour in Eastbourne, Hamilton Quay is an exclusive development of 54 apartments and 24 town houses. Adjacent to the waterfront, and therefore at the hub of marina activity, each residence at Hamilton Quay has a view over the water.

Work undertaken

The podium landscaping scheme for the Quay was designed collaboratively by IOTA and the Board of the Management Company at Hamilton Quay. IOTA developed a detailed proposal for this sizeable project, including GA plans and CAD visualisations, for presentation to the Residents Association for approval.

IOTA was commissioned to supply bespoke steel planters for the communal podium deck.

Products supplied

In total 28 large planters were supplied, in a range of shapes and sizes – from L / W 1500 x H 1100mm square tree planters, to rectangular shrub planters of various dimensions up to L 2960 x W 1000 x H 600mm.

The planters were manufactured from 2 and 3mm-thick zintec steel, with a polyester powder-coated [PPC] finish in RAL 5010 [Gentian blue], and Interpon 610 Bismuth – MX302L.

As this is a coastal location, a robust 4-stage paint system suitable for C3/C4 environments was applied, comprising:

1. pre-treatment: zinc phosphate with passivation
2. primer: Interpon PZ770
3. intermediate / primer: Interpon BPP330
4. topcoat: Interpon 610 in RAL 5010 and Bismuth – MX302L

The design of the planters incorporated a central raised floor, plus base reinforcement, to enable the planters to be moved via fork lift.
