Timber / wood
Creating spaces for people to live and interact in outside is a key aspect of many landscaping projects. The integration of street furniture is an ideal way to do this. It can give an area focus and a purpose, along with extending into spaces that could be at risk of abandonment.
Building benches, seats, tables and chairs has been part of the WoodBlocX offering since its inception back in 2001. Initially we developed a planter and bench combination, the idea being that those who were less able would be able to use the bench as an aide to their gardening work. From there things have developed dramatically. We have worked on projects nationwide adding seating solutions to a number of Unite Student accommodation builds, new home development sites as well as public gardens and spaces.
With our own workshop within the larger sawmill in Scotland, we have been able to continually develop our offering and refine our street furniture. Small details, like the end caps and buffer rings between the bench slats have all been borne out of the notion that we can always improve. There is no space to stand still in this industry.
Our modular system allows us to develop solutions that fit into any architects plans, we can work with you to develop items that fit your needs exactly, not force you down a “off the shelf” route. And as with everything we produce, it’s backed up by our 15-year guarantee giving you the peace of mind that’s needed for large-scale landscaping projects nationwide.
WoodBlocX components fit together using large plastic dowels and can be used to create strong, long-lasting structures. The key benefits of the system are:
The wood is specially selected pine from sustainably managed forests. It is quarter-sawn (avoiding the centre of the tree to minimise distortion and cracking) and pressure -treated twice during the manufacturing process. The first treatment is before machining, and the second is after cutting and drilling. This ensures full penetration of the preservative through the wood and gives a service life of over 15 years guaranteed in ground contact.
The recycled plastic dowels have a patented locking action when assembled, meaning raised beds will form one large rigid structure with many connections holding it together. Therefore WoodBlocX structures need no foundations and will not crack or break with time.
WoodBlocX is easy to build. The pieces are light enough to carry and no special tools are required.
