NOMA is a new mixed-use city centre redevelopment that has transformed Manchester’s Northern Gateway.
As part of the £800m public realm development, Woodscape was awarded the contract from P Casey & Co Contractors to develop and manufacture bespoke seating and matching timber cladding for three architectural lighting columns. The initial concept was designed by Planit-IE Landscape Architects.
The scheme began in 2011, led by the Co-operative Group, with the first phase of the project being their £100m 400,00sq ft headquarters. The striking architectural build represents the company’s strength in culture and community.
Work is now fully underway on the vibrant new neighborhood and leading commercial district featuring office, retail, residential and leisure space.
Located outside of the Co-operative Group's estate, the hidden NOMA Square boasts theatrical design features and a unique artisan identity. Woodscape manufactured various Naturally Very Durable Hardwood tapered timber sections for three 12 metre architectural lighting columns. The lighting columns also featured bevel cast bronze metal work by Chris Brammall.
Keeping a cohesive look, Woodscape matched the timber used throughout the project to manufacture bespoke hardwood and bronze seat tops, with various locally inspired CNC pattern detailing. The seat tops sit flush onto granite and fits seamlessly into the contemporary landscaping.
