The historic town of Chepstow wanted to create a focal point for the civic square, which needed to accomodate major changes in topography across the area.
Marshalls was involved at the outset of the project and modelled the structure in 3D to assess the general requirements. The company's designers were able to produce individual component drawings that allowed a completely bespoke stone structure to be produced.
The finished design was a striking interlocking sequence of semicircular turrets and redoubts, with a cleverly positioned set of steps that allow people to move freely through the centre of the structure.
The stone has been ornately carved to represent the various trades that had brought, and continue to bring, prosperity to the area.
