Belfast City Council
Belfast has over 286,000 residents and is a key tourist destination. The city has undergone massive regeneration, especially around Victoria Square, a high-end commercial, residential and leisure development.
Numerous events take place throughout the city, such as festivals, and making the public areas look good for residents and visitors is paramount.
Philip Doherty of Belfast City Council’s Parks & Leisure Department is Project Co-ordinator for the south west of the city. He is responsible for community events and gardens, as well as the flower beds and planters distributed around the city for Belfast in Bloom.
Belfast City Council has a long and successful history of working with Amberol and has used a range of different planters around the city, including barrier baskets and flower towers.
“We have been using Amberol’s products for over 15 years,” explains Philip. “We use their self-watering containers across the city, from parks to public buildings and shopping areas. The beautiful floral displays give the people of Belfast a real sense of pride in their communities, as well as giving visitors to the city a warm welcome.”
Floral displays also have a positive economic effect within the city, with many local businesses commenting on the impact that the planters create. “Quite a few of our businesses have said that they really like to see the planters being put in place and that they see real benefits in dressing the streets,” adds Philip.
The city runs a sponsorship scheme to help offset the cost and a number of businesses opt to sponsor Amberol baskets and towers. Philip explains, “Communal landscaping is an important part of attracting both businesses and visitors to the city. Our local residents also take great pride in their streets. Their only complaint is that they would like to see more!”
Philip rates the design and quality of Amberol’s products very highly and appreciates the company’s ecological approach to manufacture. “The self-watering planters come in a wide range of shapes and sizes and are all stylish and robust. We especially like the environmentally friendly aspect of the product range, with most of the planters being made out of recycled material.”
Belfast City Council described Amberol’s products as versatile, robust and attractive.
Being self-watering, their low maintenance requirement is also of value. “The self watering facility of the planters makes them much more economical than standard planters,” Philip explains. “The wicking systems and large reservoirs are fantastic as they help to cut down watering visits. By using these systems we can still have a variety of communal displays looking their best - at minimum cost.”
With a well-established partnership, Philip feels confident recommending Amberol for both products and customer care. “The service that Amberol offers is very professional – first class! Their products stand the test of time and would be a very sound investment for any organisation. Overall, I am delighted with the products and service I have received from Amberol – long may it continue.”
