Ynysangharad Park in Pontypridd has been packed full every day this summer. The much anticipated regeneration of the famous Grade II listed Lido finally opened at the start of the summer holidays and has played host to thousands of visiting children ever since.
Eibe supplied an extensive suite of play items for Lido Play – a full adventure playground – including slides, tunnels and swings, as well as a mock structure depicting the Pontypridd Railway Station.
Supported by the the European Regional Development Fund, the Lottery Fund, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, as well as Cadw, the £6.3 million scheme features a multi-purpose play area and bright, modern visitor centre. It has been designated as the national Lido for Wales.
There is a lot of local pride and national heritage associated with the Ponty Project. Jenny James, who sadly passed away last October, was the first woman to swim the channel, and she trained at the original lido, as well as working there as a lifeguard. RCT’s cabinet member for environment, leisure and sport Councillor Ann Crimmings said:
“The opening of Lido Play is a milestone in the wider Lido Pontypridd scheme. We know people have been really looking forward to the new children’s adventure playground, particularly as it is such a lovely place to go during the school summer holidays, which is why we have worked so hard in recent weeks to get it open as soon as possible.”
