Project background

The Ice Cream Farm was granted planning for a multi-million pound re-development to create the ultimate tourist attraction which would include both free admission and paid play facilities with very well defined themes. Jupiter Play was chosen for the design of one of the free admission play areas known as Daisy’s Garden.

CHALLENGE

  • What was the client looking for?

We worked very closely with Jonathan Fell, Director of The Ice Cream Farm. He wanted a unique, quirky and visually exciting timber site with a story to link to the main character of the farm Crazy Daisy, an ice cream making cow. The main thing was to give visual impact with the site.
Which challenges presented this project?
We had to find the right balance with designing a site that looked great yet wouldn’t stop children using the other facilities of the attraction. We had to create units that would relate to the garden concept as well as creating a site that was as accessible as possible whilst working to a budget.

SOLUTION AND OUTCOME

  • What design concept did Jupiter Play come up with?

We used the existing character and theme for the site to create the concept of Crazy Daisy’s Garden, where this friendly cow has an orchard of different ice cream flavoured trees, a lily pond, a small farmyard and a large potting shed. To enhance the garden concept we used multiple surface types (artificial turf, coloured wet pour, tarmac) in lovely vibrant colours that expanded also to the kit colour choice. The result is a very welcoming and fresh site that instantly invites you to engage in fun and play!

  • What makes this play area so special?

All of it! The main thing is that we have created a site that is an experience to be part of – play is almost secondary to that. There is interactivity for everybody, everyone can access the area and play on something. Everything from the wet pour patterns to the ice cream trees are unique to the site. We have created a concept and design that doesn’t exist anywhere else! It is also a great example to show how our FHS equipment can complement any style or theme.

  • What is the star attraction?

We really like how well the underground tunnel slides have worked in this site. Apart from the bright and fun colours they come with, they are a durable and safe solution. The high quality polyurethane is nice and soft to touch and there is an added value element thanks to the bubble windows! Parents and other children can interact inside and out of the mound.

  • Is the client happy with the result?

We are delighted to hear the positive comments from Jonathan Fell regarding Daisy’s Garden: "We are very pleased with the work that has been carried out by Jupiter Play. Our key designer was fantastic and completely understood what we wanted to achieve. The team that that took over on the construction side were also very efficient and helped deliver the concept well." For Jupiter, it was very inspiring working with a client so open to ideas and as excited about the project as we were.
