Dyer & Butler Ltd; Phi Group
The first of two retaining wall installations on the A3(M) at Bedhampton, Hampshire was completed by Phi Group using its Lockstone modular block system. The company worked during the night with main contractor Dyer & Butler so that disruption to the busy carriageway would be minimised.
Working with the project engineer at a very early stage, the system was specified and Phi Group carried out the detailed design and assisted with the preparation of an AIP.
The Lockstone system is a hollow concrete block that can be used as either a gravity retaining wall solution, or at greater height in conjunction with geogrid reinforcement. The front face is a split face finish, while the back of the block is curved. If installed at a batter the inside of the block can be filled with topsoil and then landscaped to provide a soft green finish.
Lockstone was specified due to its flexibility, speed of construction and previous successful projects completed for the client using the system.
Overall project value: £110,000.
