The Crows Nest in Heeley Millennium Park, Sheffield is the final piece of work that Handspring Design created for the park, managed by Heeley Development Trust.
Themed around habitat, the project included sculptural bird boxes and insect boxes, bird and bug trails and the Crows Nest.
The Crows Nest is made from local Douglas Fir timbers jointed in a seemingly random and complex manner but with a level of rhyme and repetition to it. An existing concrete pad was used so there was no need to add any foundations. The whole structure is timber-to-timber jointed with steel fixings to keep everything in place.
