Challenge
Ty Hafan offers comfort, care and support for life-limited children and young people and is dedicated to improving the quality of life for the whole family. This comfort and support extends out of the hospice and reaches right into the heart of the family home, and is completely free of charge to the families in Wales who need it.
Solution
The design for Ty Hafan is focussed on integration for everyone who wants to play. The design by Jupiter Play provides accessible and tradition types of play such as swinging, balancing and bouncing as well as unique items which engage children on a variety of sensory levels.
The concept of the area is formed around the creation of a desert island with a high up bespoke lighthouse multi play unit looking over the Bristol Channel at the bottom of the site.
The lighthouse has suitable access for a wheelchair along with a range of play activities once you are on the unit. We have created some unique experiences for children in wheelchairs as well as interest and challenge for all others.
Outcome
”I am delighted to see this project come together after many years of working with the staff and children at Ty Hafan and witnessing first-hand the hard work that has gone in to it. I believe this space is now truly inclusive for all children and is a glimpse of the modern play areas that we should now be working to achieve.”
