London Road in Bognor Regis was scheduled for improvements, and the architects, LDA Design (Exeter), specified GreenBlue Urban's StrataCell structural soil modules to benefit the new tree planting that was planned.
StrataCell was chosen due to its high load-bearing capabilities, the benefits associated with using a recycled composite material and the fact it is manufactured in the UK.
Following a presentation to the client (Arun District Council) on the benefits of high-quality tree planting specification and how this results in cost-savings in the long term, the design received approval.
The design consisted of seven 3.0x1.5m tree pits. StrataCell modules were installed two layers deep, with root protection provided by modular RootDirector units. The surface finish was completed using heavy-duty 1500x1500mm Castle recessed double-tray tree grilles.
GreenBlue Urban worked closely with Hobart Paving throughout tender stages and visited the site to oversee the tree pit installation as well as the actual tree planting. Ulmus New Horizon trees (a species of Elm that is resistant to Dutch Elm Disease) were supplied by Hillier Nurseries.
Members of the council staff involved in the scheme turned up throughout the day to observe the trees being planted.
