Challenge

The Fitz Park Play Area Project in Keswick was driven by strong local initiative and spearheaded by the Fitz Park Trust and Keswick Town Council. Their mission statement was to create and maintain a safe, well laid out, stimulating play area that was accessible to children of all age groups and abilities.

Solution

Fitz Park has a riverside setting with glorious open views of the Lake District National Park. Equipment used in the park by Proludic reflects the environment with lots of natural materials and textures to further enhance the space.

The play area has been designed with 3 key age zones: toddler, junior and teen; offering specific areas for the whole family to use. The toddler area incorporates sand surfacing whilst the junior zone is based around adventure play. The teen area takes its inspiration from extreme sports popular in the region, such as climbing and hang-gliding.

Paths and gates into the park are wheelchair and pushchair accessible and a central sensory area with inclusive items of equipment appeals to children of all ages and abilities.

Outcome

Rachel Graham, Fitz Park Lead Play Officer commented:

“Proludic have supported the Fitz Park Play Area Project exceptionally well from the initial consultation stage right through to project completion and the launch event. The design and build service suited our project down to the ground and the play area has been a huge success and brilliant transformation of a well loved community area.”
