A sheltered housing and retirement complex, Appleby & Bradbourne Court in Derby, was undergoing refurbishment of external landscaped areas, which included a planted area, repaving and steps.
The landscape architect had specified an artistic focal feature for the external paving and the challenge was to find something suitable that could fit within the client's tight project budget (a publicly-funded housing association).
The landscape architect approached Cobblestone designs and Maggy Howarth came up with suggestions to fit the budget and the space available - a relatively small 2m2.
The sun motif, a design that has been used in various contexts by Cobblestone Designs, was chosen, as it fitted the cheerful, positive in the brief. Maggy refreshed the design to suit the space and to provide something different to previous work.
