Revegetation of topsoils

Originally constructed in the 1930's, Abberton Reservoir is situated four miles to the south west of Colchester.
Covering an area of over 1200 acres and the 4th largest reservoir in England, it is a SSSI, an SPA (Special Protection Area) and one of Europe's top wetland sites.
Carillion are currently involved in a 3 year contract to enlarge the reservoir and increase its capacity by over 50%. This involves raising the main dam, constructing 3 new col dams, improving other perimeter areas and raising the B1026 causeway.
CDTS is currently engaged by the main contractor to undertake the cultivation and hydroseeding of the back of the main and col dams, involving the use of seed mixtures in keeping with the SSSI status.
Certain areas of the reservoir perimeter, including some headlands and col dams, are subjected to more significant wave erosion due to the sheer expanse of water, allowing waves to build to a considerable size. These are protected by an Open Stone Asphalt system.
CDTS have been tasked with the job of infilling this surface with soil and then seeding with grass to soften the otherwise unnatural appearance. Once completed the site will be returned to its wetland status.
CDTS also provide a grass cutting service which involved our bank tractors.
